MIDLAND, Mich., June 4th, 2019 – BOSTONtec® (https://bostontec.com) recently announced they would, for the first time, be exhibiting their electric height-adjustable workstations at the Medical Design and Manufacturing (MD&M) convention in New York, on June 11–13, to be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (Booth #1367). The workstation to be displayed is specifically engineered for the modern medical and assembly workforce; allowing for a wide variety of physical adjustments to suit nearly any body type, and/or physical accommodation or consideration, while also adjusting to a variety of work tasks.

Case Systems & BOSTONtec Invest $2 Million in Midland Operation

Midland, MI – Case Systems and BOSTONtec are pleased to announce two major investments in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The projects include a $750,000 state-of-the-art laser steel cutting machine and $1.2 million office renovation. 

The new Phoenix laser was purchased to replace two decades-old units that had been in use by BOSTONtec prior to Case Systems purchasing the company in 2003, moving operations from Massachusetts to Michigan. “BOSTONtec has experienced significant growth over the last four years,” says Kelly Wehner, president of Cases Systems and BOSTONtec. “The new laser more than doubles the steel cutting capabilities of the previous two lasers combined allowing us to keep up with current and future demand.”

The system processes steel sheets as large as 120 by 60 inches with thicknesses up to one-half inch.  It can handle a maximum capacity of 6,000 pounds – and reloads sheets in just 40 seconds! “The new laser also has ‘lights out’ capability which allows for projects to run overnight and be ready for our fabricators when they arrive in the morning,” explains Wehner. 

The laser installation came on the heels of completing a 22,000 square-foot office renovation. Partnering with Case Systems on the project were interior design firm SPACE Inc. and Spence Brothers Construction both locally based companies. The project incorporates an open concept, team pods, and ergonomic principles to create an environment that functions well, encourages collaboration and promotes positive energy.

“Teamwork is a core value for our company so our designers focused on creating open, flexible workspaces that allow for easy flow of movement and communication,” says Wehner. “The renovation supports our efforts to be an employer of choice in the mid-Michigan area.” 

The company celebrated the completion of the projects with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 9, 2018. The event included local organizations, project partners, government officials and media guests.

Midland Tomorrow, the county’s economic development agency, decided to highlight some of those manufacturers in a “Made in Midland” video launched online this week.

“Midland County is home to numerous small and medium-sized manufacturers who have made important contributions such as jobs to our economy, some for 70 years or more,” explained Becky Church, vice president of operations for Midland Tomorrow. “We felt it was important to recognize them and share their success with the local community and beyond. The video is also designed to serve as an attraction tool, showing that Midland County is open for business.”
